Free Port Scanner scans your system – or a remote one – and finds the open TCP ports. The program allows you to specify the IP address and the ports or port ranges you want to analyze. Then, it will show you the scan results with a very detailed set of information. All of that in a simple and totally intuitive interface.
The program's visual design, however, is too classical and unattractive, and needs to be enhanced. Every time you run Free Port Scanner, it automatically shows a predefined list of well-known TCP ports and port ranges for testing. You can change this list and specify a single port number, several port numbers separated with commas, and port ranges separated with scores. Besides, you can change the default IP address to be analyzed (192.168.0.1).
Finally, you can select whether to show the closed-port results or not, and start the analysis. The program shows the IP address, the port number, its status and name, and even a description of the service for standard ports. All that information is displayed in a squared panel for each analyzed port. The program also includes a "Stop" button, which is meant to stop the current analysis at any moment. However, Free Port Scanner may turn almost totally unresponsive during the analysis, and this may cause the "Stop" button not to work. Of course, it will mostly depend on your PC’s performance.
In conclusion, Free Port Scanner allows you to know the open TCP ports on a system, regardless of it being local or remote. Unfortunately, the program is not capable of finding all the open ports automatically, so you will always need to specify the target port list.
Advanced Port Scanner is a small, fast, easy-to-use and robust LAN scanner for the Win32 platform.
